We’ve been noticing CBD Skin Care turning up all over the internet and give you some insight here as to what the rave is all about.
Skin ailments and conditions can be devastating, affecting the physical and mental well-being of those who have them. Because skin problems often affect appearance, people generally want to see immediate improvement. While there are multiple treatment options for acne, wounds and psoriasis, some people find that traditional treatments provide inconsistent results and turn instead to CBD skin care products.
A common indicator of many conditions like acne and psoriasis is inflammation, which causes scaling, swelling, redness and other visible changes in the skin. So you may wonder why CBD can be used to treat such conditions. One reason is that cannabidiol has anti-inflammatory properties, which aid in calming inflamed cells. According to Philip Blair, MD, who treats hundreds of patients with CBD, CBD can outperform vitamins C and D as an antioxidant for the skin. It can also provide much-needed balance to a deficient endocannabinoid system.
CBD and Acne
Much of the inflammation associated with acne is due to the fatty acids and bacteria that are present in the skin. In addition to its anti-inflammatory properties, CBD also has strong antibacterial properties. When applied to the affected area, it can thus work as both an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic.
Skin conditions reflect a body that is in some way out of balance. The endocannabidnoid system (ECS) regulates all the body’s major systems including the central nervous system and skin. When the body is in homeostasis, it is in balance, and it just doesn’t get any better than a body in homeostasis.
When you combine those anti-bacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties with CBD’s propensity to provide the body with overall balance (aka homeostasis), you not only see improvements at the problem location, but also in overall complexion.
At Elixinol, we’ve been able to share stories about how CBD helped reduce acne with when nothing else worked. In at least one case, success was attributed to the presence of the terpenes found in hemp, which provide anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and sebum-reducing components.
CBD and Psoriasis
When there is an overproduction of cells, as in psoriasis, the skin appears inflamed and scaly as excess cells are sloughed off. Some psoriasis treatments deal only with the skin condition itself. However, CBD, like other cannabinoids, has immunosuppressive properties, which means it works on skin conditions from the inside out. Every psoriasis patient’s response to CBD will be different, but with time CBD shows potential to improve the condition.
When CBD improves psoriasis, it is often accompanied by a psychological benefit as well. People can gain a calming sense of relief.
CBD and Painful Wounds
Dr. Blair recently met with a man who was suffering excruciating pain from a wound (excision of a malignant melanoma). Since he wasn’t a candidate for skin grafting, he wanted to see if CBD could provide relief. In this case, CBD was taken orally and placed around the wound itself. Within minutes, he experienced pain relief that he wasn’t getting from traditional medications. He also noticed this 10-12 centimeter wound beginning to close and heal.
There has been other research on the treatment of malignancy-related wounds. A January 2017 report published by The Journal of Pain and Management featured a 44-year-old man who turned to topical cannabis for a wound on his cheek after traditional treatments had failed. He reported relief within 10-15 minutes of application, as well as noticing a gradual healing of the wound itself.
